Paul O’Dwyer OMFSK Dental Clinical Director
A native of Cahir, Co. Tipperary, Paul graduated (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from University College Cork in 1997. On graduation, Paul initially worked as a House Officer at Cork Dental Hospital – involved with the on-call rota for Oral and Maxillofacial unit. Two years of general practice in England was followed by one year post-graduate study and lecturing in UCC.
From 2000 to 2010, he successfully ran his own general dental practice in Co Tipperary. During this time, he was elected President of the North Munster Branch of the Irish Dental Association, appointed Examining Dentist with the Health Service Executive and inducted as a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
In January 2012, Paul was appointed Group Clinical Director at OMFSPK. This role was the first of its kind, before Paul various dentists within OMFSPK had sections of this a multifaceted role. Paul now oversees the implementation of protocol and policy directives from the Dental Council of Ireland with regard to the practice of dentistry in Ireland. Paul also reviews and implements protocols that are in line with best practice internationally. The role underpins the high levels of training, expertise and patient care that OMFSPK Group has established. The Group Clinical Director is responsible for ensuring that the patient’s needs, requirements and treatment are fulfilled to the highest standard.
Paul travels to each of the 17 OMFSPK clinics nationwide throughout the year and is constantly reviewing new thinking on dental materials and methods – ensuring that patients receive best practice care. Currently Paul is also studying for a Masters Degree in Healthcare Management at the Institute of Leadership at the Royal College of Surgeons.
Paul is a regular contributor to The Irish Times, Health Plus, Paul’s “Word of Mouth” column was the first of its kind in Ireland and he appears on RTE 2fm from time to time talking about current dental legislation and answers callers questions.
