Endodontic treatment (root canal treatment) removes infected or damaged tissue from inside a tooth. This tissue (pulp), contains nerves and blood vessels that help nourish the tooth. After the pulp is removed, the pulp chamber and root canals are cleaned, disinfected, filled and sealed. This procedure can save a tooth which would otherwise have to be extracted. Endodontists also perform operations such as amputating a root from a multi-rooted tooth, or removing the tip of a root (apicectomy). Endodontic therapy can be completed in one appointment but normally two or three visits may be necessary. To book an appointment, contact your local OMFSPK clinic.
